Everything Everything – Arc
Highlights – Kemosabe, Radiant, Don’t Try
Our first Album of the Month, and in fact the first album of this whole blog, English band Everything Everything’s second album ‘Arc’ has kicked off the year in a positive way, by building on their already unique sound which they showcased on their debut album ‘Man Alive’. This album has a much more rounded sound to it, I personally found their debut album very hard to get into and when it came out back in 2010 I glossed over it, with a distinct feeling that they didn’t themselves know what they were trying to be.
However their newest offering has a much more polished feel to it, with rising pump up songs like ‘Duet’ that build from a slow and somber start to something that builds to a drum heavy feel good song. Out and out anthems like Kemosabe and Radiant show they know the importance of singles, this album shows that they really know what kind of band they are. I also think this is a beautifully constructed album, something the indie music scene is known for but I respect massively from a band on only their second outing.
All main songs have a well structured feel, with lead singer Jonathan Higgs’ distinctive vocals riding high over the whole experience.
However, if you are a lover of chart songs, a song that I believe could make it into the charts with the right exposure (that sadly I think it won’t now get) is finale “Don’t Try” which has brilliant vocal range and is a truly musically diverse song which I think all would enjoy

Sound wise, who would you compare them too?
I suppose the closest I could get is Temper Trap, or a more vocal heavy MGMT, but with the a similar guitar sound to Two Door
